Monthly Report for October/November

This is the end of October and we are now preparing for the end of year exams which are due in mid November. Schools are set to close immediately after the end year exams for the Christmas holidays. During this month we have been able to cover the school academics syllabus and we are now doing our revisions before we start the exams. We are happy to report that our children are doing very well academically. We did an inter-schools exams with two other schools and ours did well. We did the exams together with Kariobangi P.A.G primary and nursery school together with Mount Kenya preparatory school. The three schools did an inter-schools exams and graded the children in one list. This has enabled the children to realize that there are other children who are doing same things as they are and it has also encouraged them to work hard academically.
The pre-unit class is set to have a graduation ceremony immediately after the end year exams. Last year we had a very good ceremony because Marianne and Kjersti were here and they baked cakes and cup cakes for all the graduates, relatives of the children who were present and the teachers. We were very happy and we are hoping that we will have a better ceremony this year. I have already ordered for the gowns and we are in the process of preparing presents and certificates for the graduates. The ceremony will take place on 13th Nov 2014 at the school compound. The same day will be our parents’ day where all parents and guardians will meet with the school management and teachers in order to discuss matters that concern the school. We will also be looking for ways of improving the schools performance in academics and co-curriculum activities.
We will close school for the Christmas holiday on 27th Nov 2014 to re-open 5th Jan 2015. We are again planning on taking the children for an educational tour to the animal orphanage and the Ostrich farm or the Mamba village. This can be done after the graduation ceremony. This trip will enable the children to see new things and to experience life outside their neighbourhoods. Most of them have never been taken out for even a meal in a restaurant so we hope to make them know and realise that there is life beyond what they know.
All of the teaching and non-teaching staff are greatful for the National Hospital Insurance Fund that we started paying for them. Teacher Kellis says that this will help her a lot since her daughter has been in and out of hospital very many times and it has led the family to a lot of debts. She says the insurance will help them stop getting into debts.
The scouts club is also doing well a little bit without uniform but we are optimistic that we will be able to get scouts uniform for some of them by the start of next year. The scouts have been trained together with others from surrounding schools in matters of first Aid and they have been taught to be peer advisers to the other children. We hope they will be able to give advice and help the children on peer pressure. Scouting has also helped them get more lifeskills.

Teacher Jacinter was unwell last month when the other teachers were writing their reports. She has written hers as follows;
A REPORT FROM MY CLASS
My names are Jacinter Njeri. I teach children who are aged between 9 and 10 years. I have 8 children in my class. I teach English, Mathematics, Swahili, Science, Social studies, Religious education, Lifeskills and physical education. The children are mostly average in academics.
Jackson is the class prefect and he is a very reliable boy who behaves in a mature admirable manner.
The first activity that takes place in the morning is marking the previous days homework, then we all assemble and check the children if they are all present as I mark the class register. After that we do some class cleaning then we start on the days work which I have the schemes of work and the lesson plans.
I thank all the schools partners who have helped the children to get education.
