Monthly Report For May and June

We have opened school today on Tuesday 6th May 2014 and we thank God for this far he hasbrought us.
We are happy to report that our precious kids are back to school and our able teachers and
entire staff are back to work.

Second term is a very busy term in the school syllabus. This is because most themes
(learning) activities take place during the second term. Our school has been registered with the
life skill promoters which is a non-governmental organization that deals with informal schools
in the slums and in poor areas. They train teachers, parents, and in children on how to have
child friendly schools. The organization has five thematic areas which are to make sure that:-
1. The school is safe and protective of the children
2. The school promotes health and nutrition
3. The school involves the community in its activities
This people will make sure that the school is child friendly. The people will have the task
of identifying, exploring and finding out what the school has and what is lacking.
We hope to achieve the set standards so that HAPPY DAY JUNIOR SCHOOL can be a
child friendly school in terms of the thematic areas of life still promoters because that will make
the children have a sense of belonging and a sense of ownership.

Second term has 13 weeks and this includes 2weeks for both mid and end-term
examinations.
Our scouting team is in place and has learnt a lot and we aim at achieving very valuable
knowledge through the team. This team we hope to work with our neighboring schools so that
we can have an inter-schools competition in athletics and ball games. This will enable us to
recognize talents that our children have.

We are approaching the mid of second term and are grateful that we have come this
far. Learning is in progress and our committed staffs are doing their work tirelessly.
We already have a printer for the school so we no longer have to buy exams for our children.
Thanks to all who gave towards the school and enabled us to acquire the printer. The printer is
kept at Dan`s place because of safety and security purposes. As you know our school is situated
at Maili Saba in Nairobi and there is no enough security.

Due to the political tension and insecurity in the country, the food prices and standards
of living has gone very high in Kenya. Statistics sat that by July most households will be affected
by hunger.

The Scout team needs:

  • A national flag
  • A flag post
  • A whistle
  • Ropes
  • Tents
  • Uniforms and badges

This will enable them to join other scouts in other institutions during occasions. We just hope
that they will continue with the same spirit

The school and the surrounding community is experiencing water problems. We buy a
20litre can for 20shillings and we use ten of them daily because of the latrines and cooking. This
has proved to be a major challenge to the school. Pipes are being fixed around the area and we
hope to get water soon. We also have shortage of crayons and plasticine (modeling clay)

We continue thanking all of you for the continued support.
