Jambo Happy Day family. We hope this finds you well.
A new school
year is behind us. Here is a report that captures this year.
We have 3
classes:
1.
Playgroup under teacher Mercy has 25 children. This class accommodates beginners.
Their age set is between 3 - 4 years.
This year we had 14 girls and 11 boys in our playgroup class. This class
is always the busiest because they need total care. Some come from home having
not had enough sleep and maybe not having had any food the previous night hence
their moody behavior. Some even cry in the morning, some have to be taught how
to use the toilet! The teacher in this class has so much at hand to deal with
and at the same time she has to make sure that by the end of the year the kids
are able to:
- recognize
sounds (small alphabetical letters)
- join dots
- recognize
and color objects.
- read two
letter words
- sing
songs related to numbers and sounds
- recognize
and read number 0 - 9.
2. Pre-primary
1 (Pp1) under teacher Kellies. These
kids are now used to the day-to-day school challenges they experienced in
playgroup. Their age set is between 4-6. This year we had 15 kids in this
class. 9 girls and 6 boys. They learn:
- three
letter words
- addition
of one-digit numbers
- coloring
of pictures
- reading
out loud
-
recognizing and naming new objects
- their
surroundings
- their
families
- their
school.
This class
is usually the exploring class because they are always eager to learn. They
mostly learn through seeing, touching, feeling and asking questions.
3. Pre-primary
2 (Pp2). This class is taken by teacher Mary. Their age set is 6 - 9. They are
our big boys and girls. 8 girls and 7 boys. They can now:
- read
short sentences
- write
their names in full
- do
addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers.
- read all
the charts.
- write
numbers 1 - 100
- write the
alphabet (both small and capital letters)
- draw and
color objects
This year
we had 55 kids and 4 staff members.
Tr.
Margaret is the administrator and the school cook (the teachers help in the
kitchen too).
The staff
arrive from 7am to 7:30am so that they can receive the children as they come
in.
The kids
attendance flactuates. At times we have all of them present and at times the
numbers go down due to different reasons such as sickness, travels or even some
are left at home to look after their young ones as the parents go out to look
for manual work.
Mostly all
the staff are present except when they ask for permission to attend to personal
matters (which is very minimal). When a teachers’ seminar or training or even a
meeting comes up, we also give permission to attend such. We have not had any
prolonged absence or unpermitted ones.
Break time,
which is also our porridge break starts from 10am to 11am.
Lunch time
break begins at 12:45pm to 2pm.
We all go
home at 3pm except on Friday when we go home at 2:30pm.
They all go
home with their homework assignments from the teacher so that the parents can
help them out.
This year
has been smooth to us due to the immense help, support and donations we have
received from you all. We are very grateful and we appreciate you so much.
From
January upto when we closed:
1. The kids
have learnt a lot. (Asante Sana to our teaching staff).
2. They
each received a hygiene pack at the start of the year (toothpaste, toothbrush
and soap). We hope to have a similar exercise in January 2027. Thank you for
putting a smile on their faces.
3. They
have been fed: porridge during all breaktimes, lunch during all lunch times. We
have also has a party here and there. They all went and told their parents how
excited and happy they were during the closing / graduation day. Again, we say
Asante Sana.
4. Teachers
have been paid even during the holidays and we are extremely grateful for that.
We say Asante Sana to you all for this.
5. The
premises were as good as new when we opened and they still look good. All
thanks to you for your kind support.
6. We have
had stationery (books, pencils, pens, sharpeners, chalk, plain papers,
plasticine, crayon, brick games, water colors and much more).
This teaching and learning materials have been
very instrumental in the day-to-day academic activities.
7. Licenses
have been paid for and so we smoothly operated without fear of being caught up
by the law. We were compliant. Again Asante sana for making it possible.
All the
above were made possible by each and every one of us through combined efforts.
From our
supporters, our managers, our staff, our kids, our friends and our parents. We
all made it possible and we appreciate each one of you for your contribution
towards educating and bringing up a whole child.
We have now
closed school for the long Christmas holidays break. We will be home for the
next two and a half months.
We will
open on Tuesday 5/01/2027.
We look
forward to a productive and prosperous 2027.
We wish our
staff and the kids a safe stay at home during the holidays.
See you all
in 2027.
MERRY
CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
