Good afternoon happy day family.
We are in the fifth week of the first term of 2023 academic year. We opened school on a high note despite the low attendance of the pupils. We attribute the low turn out to the current economic situation. We have not been having the feeding program and so it becomes difficult for most of the kids to be in school. As at today we had 39 kids .
Mostly the absent ones give the hunger reasons when asked why they don't come. Currently we are asking parents to pack lunch for the kids or bring food at lunch time.
It's sad to note that some of the kids are made to skip lunch because there is no food to pack or to bring to school. Parents opt to make a meal that is shared by all family members and so they can have their kids come to school and miss out on the family meal.
Kenya is experiencing drought like never before and so most of our parents who depend on washing clothes for their income are not earning any money. Our happy day kids are affected so much by the current situation.
We are grateful to friends of happy day who have stood with us by donating your support to us. We can only say thank you very much .. Asante sana for your continued support. We don't take your help for granted. We wish you all the best that life has to offer for keeping a child in school and putting a smile on their face.
At happy day we keep the children in school for free despite our many needs. No child is send home for any money. This is only possible because of your support.
Be blessed.
Academically, we are doing very well and in tune with the curriculum design. However, we require text books to enable us to teach. The text books are sold at the KICD ( Kenya institute of curriculum development) at a cost of between 450 and 600 ksh). This are very essential and vital teaching aids for the teachers.
All our staff are doing the best they can . Tr. Everline is on maternity leave. The rest of us are in place and trying our best to create a safe space for the kids especially now that life is hard. We hope rains pours and the drought goes away so that parents can be able to go back to work and put a meal on the table for their kids.
We are scheduled to do our mid term exams from next week so that we can gauge our performance academically.
This will require 2600 In order for us to be able to purchase the exams.
The premises are also in need of some repairs especially the water system. Our walls need some painting.
We need at least 10 desks.
We hope that we will achieve each of the above needs through your support.
