Good morning to you all. We are about to open schools for the first term of 2018. We are opening on 3rd January after a very long Christmas holiday. 

We at happy day are happy because all of our parents, children and staff got some Christmas food. Thanks very much to all who made it possible. Each family got maize flour, wheat flour, porridge flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, toothpaste, petroleum jelly, tissue, salt, biscuits and sweets. I saw joy and appreciation on their faces

Our staff are requesting for an early payment of salaries so that they too can prepare their families for back to school. Most schools will open on 2nd January

Our January budget is as follows 

Salaries..... 75000

Monthly Report for November/December

Jambo family

Trust you are all fine. We too are fine despite the political uncertainity in our country Kenya. We closed school very early due to the repeat of the presidential elections after it had been nullified by the supreme court of kenya. Since then life has not been the same. We have seen killings, destruction of properties and many other atrocities have been commited. Politics has greatly affected poor families who depend on working and getting paid on a day to day basis. Imagine a parent who has to go to wash clothes to get a dollar per day so that their children can get food and because of political happenings they cant go to work! 

Most of happy day families are really affected coz they live way below the poverty line. After we closed school, we received some money from you our partners and we bought food for all the happy day families. Each family received 2kg of maize flour 2kg wheat flour 1kg sugar 1 bar soap Toothpaste Cooking oil Salt 2tissue rolls 1kg porridge flour And petroleum jelly. They all really appreciated. After a few day the sponsored kids got some shopping and shoes. We are very grateful for the help extended to us and especially to the families.
When I when to distribute food, I got really sad news about Mariam's death Mariam was a very beautiful, hardworking, open-minded, active, ready to work and ready to listen girl. One would never have imagined the poor state of her family by just looking at her or her siblings. They are a family of determined people. People with nothing to their name but a happy people. We have received help for the family and on behalf of the family we say ahsante sana. Omar is set to start going to read and learn from a library facility in buruburu. He is starting on 1st December. Thanks again to everyone who is standing with the family.

Our Nov/Dec budget is as follows

Note that we have to pay for next years licences in DEC so that we don't get disrupted during our learning.

Dere er fantastiske

Dere er fantastiske! Hva skulle vi gjort uten all den støtten vi får fra dere alle.

Omar og familiens situasjon ser nå ut til å kunne løse seg litt.

Omar kan nå bli med på et aktivitetstilbud på biblioteket. Der vil han kunne lese, lære og bli med på et mentorprogram som kan gi han mye råd og støtte. Dette er et kjempeflott tilbud for han, og han får noe meningsfylt å fylle dagene med.

Vi har også fått inn nok penger til at familien kan komme tilbake til Nairobi!

Tusen takk til alle som har sendt penger, det nytter virkelig!

Her er Omar innom skolen tidligere i uka for å hente mat og sko til lillesøsteren :) Han har virkelig vokst den siste tiden, vi kjente han nesten ikke igjen da han kom

Mariam

For to uker siden fikk vi den triste beskjeden om at Mariam hadde dødd og at familien hadde reist for å begrave henne.

Mariam var ei veldig fin jente, som tok seg av sine tre yngre søsken og som var veldig ivrig på å lære. Hun var så glad da hun fikk muligheten til å begynne på naboskolen, slik at hun kunne være med jenter på sin egen alder og lære mer!

Vi har hjulpet familien med penger til begravelse og for å betale ned gjeld etter sykehusbesøk. Men fremdeles trenger de hjelp til å komme seg fra landsbygda og tilbake til Nairobi.

Broren Omar er nå alene hjemme i Nairobi, langt fra familien. Han skal vi nå hjelpe slik at han får noe å fylle dagene med, slik at han holder seg borte fra gata og kriminalitet. Men vi håper å kunne hjelpe familien slik at de kan være sammen!

Skoleavsluttning

Idag hadde vi siste skoledag før juleferien. Nå er skolen stengt frem til over nyttår.
I år stengte skolen litt tidligere en vanligere på grunn av det nye presidentvalget som blir holdt imorgen.

Det ble servert mat og drikke til alle elevene og foreldrene som kom.
Og vi hadde en fin seremoni for de barna som nå er ferdig på førskolen og skal over i første klasse i januar.

Takk for i år!

Monthly Report October

Morning y'all. I trust you are all fine and doing well. 

We at Happy Day are doing well too despite the political temperatures in Kenya. As we all know this is the third term and the last term of the year. Due to the presidential reelection, schools are closing very early. All schools are supposed to close before 26th October which is the election day. 

As always, our pre-unit class is supposed to graduate this month as they join class one. We always have the graduation ceremony during the closing day which will be on 25th October 2017. We have 10 children in that class. 

The school looks as good as new due to the ongoing face-lift and renovation. THANKS VERY MUCH TO YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT. Mum and I have been busy with the workers who started working during the holidays. Most of the work has been done. Mum thinks that we can paint immediately after closing which I think is okay. The carpenter will come to do his quotation for the shelves and lockers tomorrow then we can send it. During the renovation we used lots of water for the work. 

We will start our end term exams on Wednesday 18th and finish on 23rd October
