Monthly Report for April and May

Written by Teacher Margaret

Jambo to all of you. Trust you are all fine and doing well. We at Happy Day are fine and doing good. We openned school today for the second term and we are looking forward towards having a good term ahead. Most of the kids do not report to school on the first day due to a few challenges but they will be back by the end of the week.
Second term has a totall of 14 academic weeks. We have asked the teachers to bring their schemes of work and lesson plans for second term by the end of the week. This will enable us to plan in advance on the academics. We will make the school time table tomorrow during our staff meeting. During this meeting we will discuss on matters that affect us at Happy Day and come up with ways of handling the matters. All of us will be required to outline our challenges both in class and in the school. Last term we insisted on all kids coming to school in full school uniform but unfortunately some of them didn't come back because their parents were unable to buy the uniform. We hope that this term they come back and learn. I have talked to some of the affected kids parents and I told them to let the kids come to school as they arrange on how to buy the uniforms.
I attended a workshop towards the end of last term which was about the changes in our education system. This will happen gradually. The government is still working on how to go about with the changes and more workshops and seminars will be arranged for proprieters and teachers on the same. More on the changes will be reported as they happen.
The private schools association will from wednesday next week hold a seminar for all its members in Nairobi to talk on matters that affect formal and informal schools in the sector. I have been invited to participate in the seminar as Happy Day representative.

Monthly Report February

Written by Teacher Margaret

Jambo Happy Day family. We at happy day are doing well and we have started our mid term exams today. We will break for our mid term rest on Friday this week and come back in Tuesday next week. Our staff are working tirelessly towards achieving the goals that they have set for the term.
Last term we had our septic tank (sewage) emptied at a cost of 5k and we are thankful to you all. We also bought some text books at a cost of 7k. I have been buying more books for use at happy day. I think we now have enough for teaching though all the kids share the books because we can only buy for a whole class and not for every child.

This term has been kind of challenging especially to me but we are working on improving the quality of education and the lives of our kids. Peter Mwangi had gone back to the dumping site and we had to go looking for him to bring him back to school.I am glad and happy that he is back. We bought him new school uniform, books, pencils and all the requirements. I will be taking him to the education for life seminar on March 20th at the Kariobangi Catholic Church so that he can be taught on the importance of education.

This term all schools are participating in ball games. We will be joining the neighbouring schools for the same after the mid term break.

Our budget for February is
Salaries.......... 50,000
food................24,000
water................2,500
insurance.... ....14,000
hygiene............. 5,500
TOTAL...........96,000 Kenyan Shillings

Thanks for the support. Be blessed always

Tusen takk for all støtte vi får.
